Common Post-Printing Processes for Packaging

Table of Content [Hide]

After printing, a series of finishing processes are applied to create premium, functional packaging. These processes are known as post-printing finishing.

    1. Varnishing & UV Coating

A transparent protective coating is applied to the printed surface to enhance gloss, smoothness, and durability.

    • Water-based varnish

    • UV coating

    • Pearl coating

    2. Laminating

A thin plastic film (0.012–0.02 mm) is bonded to the printed sheet for protection and texture.

    • Gloss lamination

    • Matte lamination

    • PET lamination

Ideal for boxes, book covers, labels, and brochures.

    3. Hot Stamping

Heated dies transfer metallic foil onto the surface to create luxury gold, silver, or custom-colour effects.

    • Standard hot stamping

    • 3D / embossed hot stamping

    4. Embossing & Debossing

Pressure is applied using male and female dies to create raised or recessed patterns without ink.

    • Standard etched dies

    • High-precision laser engraving dies

    5. Lamination & Mounting

    • Corrugated lamination

Forms rigid, shock-resistant corrugated board for strong shipping and retail packaging.

    • Sheet mounting

Two or more sheets are bonded to increase thickness, stiffness, and stability.

    6. Flocking & Glittering

Special decorative finishes for high-end packaging:

    • Flocking: Soft, velvety texture

    • Glittering: Sparkling luxury effect

    7. Die-Cutting

Printed sheets are cut into custom shapes using steel-rule dies.

High-speed automatic die-cutting with integrated waste removal ensures efficiency and consistency.

    8. Folder-Gluing

The final step: die-cut blanks are folded and glued into finished boxes.

Automatic folder-gluers deliver high-speed, precise box assembly.
